Bio

LORENZO MONTANINI is an Italian director, performer and creator based in London. He studied with many artists in Italy and abroad such as M. Tarasco, B. Meyers, The Living Theatre, Milon Mela, E. Vargas, Teatro de Los Sentidos, A. Bogart and the SITI Company. When he moved to the United States he studied cinema at New York Film Academy and he was the first Italian to be selected by SITI Company to train with them at Columbia University and Skidmore College. Lorenzo holds an MA in Performance Making from Goldsmiths University and is a Phd candidate at Queen Mary University.

He teaches and practices Viewpoints training and the Suzuki Method of Actor Training and he has directed an experimental bilingual laboratory of contemporary Chinese theatre for the University L’Orientale of Naples for 15 years, staging every year a new play never published nor staged in Italy before. He worked as lecturer and director for several universities in Italy and abroad (RomaTre, Università di Macerata, Rose Bruford College, Queen Mary University).

He has directed shows in many festivals in Europe and in America such as Festival Iberoamericano de teatro de Bogota’, XXXVI Festival Internacional de teatro de Manizales, X Fiesta de las Artes Escenicas de Medellin, Festival Iberoamericano de Cadiz, Napoli Teatro Festival Italia, Encuentro de las Americas, Destinos,  Longlake Festival Lugano, Festival Internazionale di Montalcino, Roma Fringe Festival, Festival Tramedautore OUTIS Milano. His shows were presented also in many theatres such as Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo (Bogotà), Casa Ensamble (Bogotà), The Red Room Theatre (New York), La Mama Etc (NYC), Steppenwolf Theatre (Chicago), LATC (Los Angeles), Piccolo Teatro Grassi (Milano), Teatro Palladium (Roma), Teatro Stabile d'Innovazione Galleria Toledo (Napoli), Teatro Studio Uno (Roma). He performed in Italy and abroad with companies such as Palissimo Dance Theatre Company, Teatro de los Sentidos and his projects have been awarded grants and residences in Europe and in America.

He has also worked as a performer and as a director with the European Commission (Resonances Festival 2017, 2022) and with the United Nations in New York (2008) participating in projects aimed to build a dialogue between art, science and politics.

His work is multidisciplinary, multilingual and always trying to cross boundaries pushing the definition of theatre and live performance.

LORENZO MONTANINI è un regista e attore italiano che vive a Londra. Ha studiato con molti artisti in Italia e all’estero, tra cui: M. Tarasco, B. Meyers, The Living Theatre, Milon Mela, E. Vargas, Teatro de Los Sentidos, A. Bogart and the SITI Company. Ha vissuto negli Stati Uniti dove ha studiato cinema alla New York film Academy ed è stato il primo italiano ad essere selezionato dalla SITI Company per studiare con loro alla Columbia University e allo Skidmore College. Ha conseguito un MA in Performance Making alla Goldsmiths University di Londra e sta completando un Phd alla Queen Mary University.

Insegna e pratica il Viewpoints training e il Suzuki Method of Actor Training, ha diretto per più di 15 anni un laboratorio di teatro contemporaneo cinese bilingue all’Università L’Orientale di Napoli mettendo in scena ogni anno un testo mai rappresentato né tradotto prima in Italia. Ha insegnato a RomaTre, Università di Macerata, Rose Bruford College e Queen Mary University.

Ha anche lavorato come regista e attore con la Commissione Europea (Resonances Festival 2017, 2022) e con le Nazioni Unite a New York (2008) partecipando a progetti per costruire un dialogo tra le arti, la scienza e la politica.
